It is ours.

Ndezvedu means “it is ours” in Shona. It is a statement about ownership, and it is the reason the organisation exists. Africa’s future is being built by Africans, and has been for generations. Our work is to move capital and access toward that building — not to direct it, and not to arrive with a plan and call it help.

Why now

Africa is the youngest continent on Earth. Within a generation, more than a quarter of the world’s people and a third of its young will be African. That shift is already underway, and it will reshape the global economy whether or not the rest of the world is paying attention.

What is scarce is not talent, ambition, or ideas. It is access — to capital that will back a founder who does not resemble the last one it funded, to networks that open doors already open to others, and to the kind of patient money that lets a good business survive its first few years. That is a failure of allocation, and allocation is a thing that can be changed.

What we focus on

Education. Access to schooling, training, and qualifications that carry real weight — and to the institutions that make them worth holding.

Entrepreneurship. Capital, mentorship, and networks for people already building businesses. Most good ideas fail for want of funding and connections, not for want of merit.

Empowerment. Power that already exists, exercised without asking. Decisions sit with the people who live with their consequences; we fund the work, we do not run it.

How we work

We would rather do a few things properly than many things visibly. That means backing people rather than programmes, committing for longer than a grant cycle allows, and judging ourselves by what gets built rather than by what we spent or how it looked while we spent it.
